Funding

Home care can be funded in 3 principle ways:

  1. Home Care Packages
    • Home Care Packages are services delivered by the HSE and various appointed providers, to cover the needs of elderly people living at home. Depending on the needs of the person these services can include, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and home care attendants. Each pacakage is tailored to the individual. Home Care Plus can help you with how best to apply for funding.
  2. Home Care Grants
    • The purpose of Home Care Grants are to enable you to remain living at home longer by providing financial assistance to pay for additional community supports and services. They are open to people who are over 65 years of age and who are currently receiving HSE community support service
  3. Family Support
    • The government in an effort to aid the development of home care services, currently allows tax relief on payments made by you or your familly for certain services, at the highest rate up to a maximum of 50,000 euro per year. The tax credit can be adjusted so that relief will apply on a monthly basis or an annual basis. In a simple example where someone is paying 1000 euro a month for home care, the actual cost after tax relief at the highest rate would be 590 euro.
